UCSRN ‘19: Why You Should Go

Vedi, perdi, risi (I came, I lost, I laughed)

Every year, the University College Student Representatives of the Netherlands (‘UCSRN’) organises a tournament for all University Colleges in the country. During the tournament, students can compete in a plethora of sports and games. Because our university is one of the smallest and newest, winning even a single event has shown to be difficult over the last couple of years. This does not, however, make it any less fun.

I have participated the previous two years and I will for sure be joining again this time. This year, the tournament will be held in The Hague, on the 22nd of April. We will be on the sportcampus there, cheering on our teammates and competing ourselves for our beloved Groningen (and our little brother Tilburg, since just like last year, we will join forces to form one team).

As a Dutch student who is obsessed with sports, I have always been a bit jealous of the American college sports culture. And in my opinion, UCSRN is that one opportunity where you can truly experience anything like it . Though we should not expect to win this tournament (it will probably be AUC again), it does not take away any of the enjoyment or competitiveness. Having your friends and peers on the sideline during a game cheering you on is amazing, even if you are losing very badly.

But luckily there is one event us underdogs will always excel in; the after party. This is a giant party together with all the other competitors of the tournament, a great way to make new friends and learn about the other UC’s.

I highly recommend you join this year’s UCSRN tournament. You can sign up for a wide range of activities, from numerous sports (football, table tennis and what not), to videogames, improv and more.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. Think I am advertising this event with extreme positivity? Well, I should. I went there, it’s honestly great and it deserves all the positive words I gave it.
