We’re back, better than ever!!!!

Heya UCG folks, welcome to the newest and hopefully most exciting part of the Caerus website. We are Slash, the journal committee UCG used to have and definitely deserves. In the early years of UCG we existed and published issues with ease. But changes in members, caerus budgets and motivation eventually led to Slash slowly fading to the background. But after working in silence over the last year, we are finally returning to the light and do what is expected of us and actually publish our writings. Graciously, Caerus has allowed us to use their website for this. So this is what we will do. On this page you will be able to find a blog that we will update at least two times a week. We are also looking into using this website for more interactive features, like a virtual compliment wall for all our students, amongst others things.

Our first few posts will range from talking about life at UCG for first years, to reporting on the events on the GA just from reading the minutes, to talking about the ongoing cruise ship crisis Venice is facing at the moment. But with this first post, we would like to introduce ourself, the four excited and enthusiastic members, eager to get Slash going again.

Johannes Meyer - Chair

Hey ho my name is, as you can see, Johannes. Most first years should already know me from my absolutely and undeniably smashing speech at the convocation ceremony. My hobbies include but are not limited to excessive climbing, reading and tennis. My academic interests are mainly the sciences but I´m also looking forward to humanities and social sciences. Being a first year I wanted to join a committee and since Slash has been out of commission i thought it might be interesting to restart it and put a new twist on it. All of you are invited to witness us making slash great again.

Alicia Jonker

Hi, my name is Alicia. I’m a first year who’s very enthusiastic about sciences, arts and cultures. Outside of the classroom I can often be found reading or drawing or thinking about topics to write about. That’s why I decided to join Slash where I can put my ideas to paper for everyone that needs a break from studying.

Yoram Sennekool

Hey there! My name is Yoram. I'm a second year student interested in a whole range of subjects and fields. Anything from natural sciences to philosophy and psychology will get me interested. I am very dedicated to make Slash a part of UCG life and hope to get as many people interested in our committee. Besides Slash, I am in the yearbook committee and in UCGO, which represents my love for graphic design and sports.

Olle Hermsen

The temporary foreign correspondent for Slash. After being at UCG for two years it was time for me to leave the beautiful Groningen behind for a semester and instead spend my time travelling around on Venetian boat busses. I’m an economic student but spend most of my time playing sports like pick-up basketball or football. Besides this I also like to write once in a while for some reason, that’s why I have been part of Slash for over two years now.

P.S. Absolutely unrelated side note: If you, or anyone you know, is interested in writing and or reading for Slash, send us a message or just come up to us in person.

Heated protests in the cold Venetian water

Now almost a month into my exchange in Venice, full of pasta and Spritz, I decided it would be nice to write a bit about what is going...
